Artists' Children

Art Show, Children's Arts/Crafts
Arizona is the home of many talented and driven individuals who are both artists and parents. “Artists’ Children,” a new exhibition presented by Scottsdale Arts Education & Outreach, showcases artwork by the next generation of creatives, ages 2 – 22. It opens Oct. 12 at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. A child’s first and most effective teachers are often their parents. Just as the child of a professional musician might have more encouragement and opportunity to listen to music and play an instrument at an early age, the children of visual artists grow up in an artistically nurturing environment that is not short on art supplies, studio space or creative freedom. The work of local professional artists can be seen in local museums and galleries, and many are also exhibiting across the country and internationally. Their children grow up with the resources, encouragement and expert advice that can lead them to create incredible work of their own. This exhibition showcases the work of 27 artists’ children who really have not fallen far from the tree.

Tania Katan: Creative Trespassing

Talks/Lectures
After more than 10 years of smuggling creativity into the business sector without getting busted, Tania Katan's new book "Creative Trespassing: How to Put the Spark and Joy Back into Your Work and Life" is a refreshing look at how to fit creativity into the seemingly mundane. Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art is hosting a one-of-a-kind book launch at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m. on Feb. 22, 2019. Katan is a creative disruptor by nature and one of the brains behind the viral sensation #ItWasNeverADress, which aspired to shift perceptions about women, initially by transforming the ubiquitous bathroom sign from a dress-wearing woman to one donning a superhero cape. During the much-anticipated launch event, Katan will impart hilarious stories, wacky, battle-tested exercises for flexing your creative muscles and a presentation featuring "Fire Hierarchy" and "Transform the Norm." This performative talk will deliver tools and strategies for taking more creative risks, leading with more imagination, facing fears and embracing obstacles as an opportunity to accelerate growth and the ability to find inspiration where others see only limitations.

Max Raabe & the Palast Orchester

Classical, Cabaret, Jazz
The inimitable Max Raabe and Palast Orchester embody the music, style and decadence of Weimar-era Berlin. Slick and nostalgic, yet unmistakably modern, Raabe and his talented 12-piece band channel with uncanny precision the high style and musical glory of the 1920s and 1930s. A singer of incredible range, Raabe captures the cunning rasp of the cabaret singer, the confidence of the bel canto hero, the carefree timbre of early jazz and the falsetto of ragtime. His talents and humor have charmed audiences around the world.
