Mega Funk Fest

Funk, R&B/Soul
Ikonic Productions Presents Mega Funk Fest featuring the legendary Dazz Band, GAPX – The Band, Rose Royce and special guest Soul Power Band at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 22nd at the historic Celebrity. Get ready for bass-slapping, synth-driven funk from Cleveland, Ohio as Dazz Band (short for “danceable jazz”) brings back those tight rhythms and smooth singing from the ‘80s. GAPX – the Band is the funky, rocking, soulful mega band brought to life by six of the original Gap Band players. This is not a tribute band – it is the core group of players who wrote, recorded, and toured the world originally as The Gap Band. Rose Royce is considered by many fans to be one of the most underrated groups to hail from the ‘70s era. A resurgence of their music, through continued airplay and steady covers by admiring artists, has kept the L.A.-based group’s classy funk and soul flowing well into the 21st Century. Soul Power Band has evolved into one of the hottest acts in the Metro-Phoenix area. This group brings you vintage soul, funk and R&B like never before heard in the Valley.

Todd Rundgren

Rock, Pop
Todd Rundgren is one of rock's true visionaries, experimenting with various media to fashion his pop masterpieces. After starting in the Philadelphia-area band Nazz in the mid-'60s ("Open My Eyes"), Rundgren took off as a star in the early '70s, with many hits, including "Hello, It's Me," "I Saw the Light" and a for-note replication of The Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations." He also started the band Utopia in the late '70s, and had three critically acclaimed albums with them in the early '80s. In recent years, he has performed both on his own (that included a mid-'90s tour during the lounge craze, where he played tiki versions of his hits) and with Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band, but he returned to the limelight in 2017 with the politically charged album "White Knight"; it which featured the single "Mr. Tin Foil Hat," co-written with and sung by Steely Dan's Donald Fagen.

John Waters: This Filthy World

Solo Performance
John Waters’ one-man show is a “vaudeville” act that celebrates the film career and obsessional tastes of the man William Burroughs once called “The Pope of Trash.” Focusing in on Waters’ early negative artistic influences and his fascination with true crime, exploitation films, fashion lunacy, and the extremes of the contemporary art world, this joyously devious monologue elevates all that is trashy in life into a call to arms to “filth followers” everywhere.

The Alarm
With Jay Aston's Gene Loves Jezebel
Rock
The Alarm, formed in 1977, stormed out of Wales in the early '80s, full of bluster and brashness and bombast (they matched U2's energy as an opening act on the "War" tour) and a self-titled I.R.S EP in 1983 with the anthem "The Stand." They followed that with the smash anthem, "Sixty-Eight Guns." The original lineup broke up in 1989 and re-formed in 2004 ... just in time for singer Mike Peters to be diagnosed with leukemia the following year. He's overcome that after much chemotherapy and treatment, and still fronts the band.
