Cave Creek Museum: Stamp Mill Run

Living History, Education, For the Family, Antiques
Feel the earth-shaking power and hear the roar of the historic 1880 Golden Reef Mine Stamp Mill, Arizona's only fully operational ten-stamp ore crushing mill, as you watch Cave Creek Museum volunteers crush hard rock ore in search of gold! This is history in motion, an incredible sight! The Golden Reef Stamp Mill Exhibit now includes ore buckets and tram towers. A little backstory: The stamp mill was carried down from its former location at the Golden Reef Mine on Continental Mountain and the Cave Creek Museum "Dream Team" of volunteers spent nine years re-building and re-furbishing the stamp mill. You don't need to RSVP, just show up and rock out! Museum hours October 1- May 31, are Wednesday through Sunday, 1:00pm to 4:30pm. Extended Friday Hours are 10:00am to 4:30pm. Closed Mondays, Tuesdays, and Holidays.

Cave Creek Museum: Gerry Jones Home Tour

Benefit/Fundraiser, Gardening, Tour, Design, History/Science
The Cave Creek Museum is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a Featured Exhibit “The Legacy of Gerry Jones” and "The Gerry Jones Home Tour,” honoring the noted architectural designer and builder.
After serving in the Marines in World War II and Korea, Mr. Jones remained in China to study history and philosophy, and observed that ancient Buddhist monasteries were tucked directly into the mountains. When he began his career in design, he resolved to employ the terrain to its best advantage without destroying the natural mountain contours, just as the Buddhists had done centuries before. A seasoned rock climber, Mr. Jones knew the land well. He laid out roads and lots by leading bulldozers across the land as he wove around native cacti, rocks, outcroppings, and trees. He utilized existing rocks and boulders structurally as supports for the foundations of his buildings and interior features of the spaces he created. Home Tour participants will visit six of his signature homes in three shifts: 9am-noon; noon-3pm; and 3pm-6pm. Please note that the residences are multi-level and are not ADA accessible.
This season-long celebration of Gerry Jones is supported by a grant from the Kemper and Ethel Marley Foundation.
